Highlights of our Summer Vacation - Part 1 - Massachusetts and New Hampshire

I have let too much time go by before posting a pictorial travelogue of the wonderful summer holiday we had in New England and Quebec.   It was truly a memorable vacation - filled with friends, fun, food and fantastic experiences!

Massachusetts

We arrived in Boston on Thursday, the 5th of June, after spending the night of the 4th in Dallas.  Our flight was a bit "bumpy" as we flew through a number of storms through the Midwest.   We landed in Boston at midday during a steady but not too heavy downpour.   Even though we drove to Salem, we did not see much  as the downpour continued throughout the day.  We did have a fabulous lunch at the historical Hawthorne Hotel and we visited a fascinating maritime art museum - the Peabody Museum.  The museum was a perfect introduction to the harbors and coastal views we saw throughout our visit to the Northeastern region of the U.S. and Canada.   An example is the photo above - taken from a day trip we took with our new friends, Flo and Don Bruel, who very kindly took us to Rockport and Halibut Point State Park, on the Atlantic coast.

But I am getting ahead of myself as our 1st day was also spent meeting Miriam and Joe Hatoun at their home where we were given a warm welcome.  We talked for hours with Miriam and it was truly as though I had known her for years, and not just online friends on DWLZ  (Dotti's Weight Loss Zone).

The next morning we were treated to a wonderful Middle Eastern style breakfast (Joe is from Lebanon and both Miriam and Joe are gourmet cooks!).   Here are a couple of photos taken on their deck on our first morning in Massachusettes:  (and, yes, it was quite cool even though it was June)

Shortly after breakfast, Flo and Don Bruel  (Flo is also an online friend from Dotit's!) picked us up for our day trip to Rockport and Halibut Point State Park.  Here area  few photos from the wonderful day we spent together!

In the evening, we had yet another "gourmet' meal prepared by Miriam and Don.  Flo and Don joined us all for the delicious dinner consisting of grilled meat, fried potatoes and a wonderful salad.  Here are a few photos of the evening we spent together:

Our visit with Miriam and Joe ended the next day with a fabulous brunch which Miriam and Joe had planned and prepared for us.   Flo and Don joined us along with a few ladies who will be joining our on our next Dotti Reunion - a Caribbean cruise next April - including Barbara (Bubbles) from our online forum.   As you can see , the spread Miriam and Joe put together was incredible!

New Hampshire

We left Massachusetts in the early afternoon of Saturday, the 7th of June, and took a coastal route to our condo near North Conway, New Hampshire.   We made a quick stop in the coastal town of Portsmouth, where we visited yet another online friends - Wendy Katsekas, whom I've known since way back in the late 90's when we were all members of a teachers' forum on AOL!   Wendy treated us to coffee and we had a nice albeit too short chat together before we continued on our journey to the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  Here is a photo of Wendy and me with the Portsmouth harbor behind us:

We arrived at Attitash Mountain Resort, a secluded resort surrounded by trees and located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.    The scenery was beautiful - quaint, peaceful towns;  lovely mountains and waterfalls, and, of course, the covered bridges, a tradition in New England!  Here are several photos of our stay in New Hampshire which we fell in love with and hope to return to some day…
